I know most people who have just begun a new lifestyle of working out and staying physically active, feel that their family vacation is completely their time to relax from their rigorous regimens and do absolutely nothing..."WRONG!" Though someone may take a break from their social and environmental surroundings, they have to remember that their muscles still require physical assertiveness and endurance repetitions. To stay on the "up and up" fit wise, follow these simple exercises to keep your body not only conditioned while taking a much needed break but to continue feeling good as well!
1. Walk, Jog, or Run
This is is easy and can be accomplished in any area you may be staying or vacationing. Remember you are not trying to run a full marathon just a few miles to keep your metabolism raised and oxygen circulating.
2. Push-Ups
If you know me or attend any of my classes then you know that pushups are my middle name! People have been doing this exercise for centuries. They require no equipment, they work your abs, and majority of the muscles in your upper body and plus they can be modified to fit your individual strength, i.e. hands/knees, hands/toes, laying on stomach pushing torso and shoulders upward (Cobra asana).
3. Sit-ups/ Crunches
Keep your core strong!
4. Prison Style Body Squats
Hands behind your head, elbows open, and feet shoulder width apart. Keep movement smooth and go 'til you cant no mo'!
A good 45 min workout before you leave your hotel each morning and commence to being a tourist will make your vacation more enjoyable as well as relaxing!
Try it and see what I tell you... I just did!
Smile,
W. Graham, MS
Peace
